Sanitary sewer lines and water lines are under construction on Dairy Lane.
Work is expected to be completed by December 2024.
Project #322 West Union Street Improvements
The purpose of the West Union Street Project is to improve: safety conditions, intersections, and accessibility. The project will also include improvements to City-owned water, sanitary, and storm utilities. The project limits are between the State Route 682 Bridge and the South Shafer Street Intersection. An extension of Herrold Avenue will be constructed to provide an alternative access to the West State Street Park, Ohio University Innovation Center, Stewart MacDonald, and other area businesses and facilities in order to improve safety, decrease congestion, and promote economic development. Work on West Union Street will start in March 2024, and is projected to be completed by December 2024.
The project limits are West Washington Street, between Congress Street and College Street, and State Street, between Congress Street and College Street. The project will tie into the newer features on Court Street, which underwent a pedestrian improvements project in phases between 1995 and 2007.
The purpose of the Athens Uptown Improvements Project, Phase 1, is to improve the safety of the area for bicycles and pedestrians and build off of the Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan, the Active Transportation Plan, and the City's Comprehensive Plan Update.
Construction plans are completed. Project construction is expected in summer of 2024.
Project #357 State Route 682 and State Route 56 Roundabout
The ATH-56-11.267 project will remove the existing traffic signal and construct a roundabout at the intersection of Union St. (S.R. 56) and (S.R. 682). The project will include drainage system adjustments, new intersection lighting, and pedestrian facilities along the corridor.
This project is projected to be bid in early 2025.
Project #358 Stimson Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation
This project consists of rehabilitation of the Stimson Avenue Bridge over the Hocking River. improvements include new deck and elastomeric bearings, conversion to semi-integral abutments, repainting existing superstructure, new approach slabs with roadway approach work, new lighting and aesthetics and a multi-use path across the bridge.
Design is in progress and this project is projected to bid late 2024.
